You're invited to the groundbreaking for the Arts District Park!
The Arts District Park, initially funded in part by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), was in peril after the CRA was dissolved and funding was no longer available. To keep the park alive, Councilmember Huizar committed $1.5 million of Council District 14’s Quimby fees to the project.
Once funding was in place, Council District 14 and Recreation & Parks engaged the local community in workshops to develop a design for the park. Councilmember Huizar is thrilled to break ground on this park and see our vision become reality.
One of the greatest challenges we face today in the City of Los Angeles is how to find new and innovative ways to provide open, green space to the diverse communities that make up our city. Recently, Councilmember Huizar worked with community leaders to bring the City’s first “parklets” to Downtown Los Angeles, which transform street parking spaces into a small urban oasis.
Los Angeles has less parks and green space per capita in Downtown than almost every other major city. Councilmember Huizar remains firm in his commitment to work with the Department of Recreation and Parks to ensure more green space is planned for as our Downtown center is revitalized.
