On Saturday, November 7, the City of LA and Office of Councilmember Huizar, Coca-Cola, and the LA Department of Recreation and Parks came together to unveil the new Lou Costello Jr. Recreation Center, complete with a new ball field, shade structures, bleachers, picnic tables, park benches, and more.
This exciting revitalization effort also includes additional assistance for park programs, so families can enjoy more activities at Lou Costello. Many Boyle Heights families joined in on this free day of fun, music, prizes, activities, and more.
“Public parks such as this one are the cornerstones of our communities, and my office has been focused on working with Recreation and Parks and our partners to improve parks throughout Council District 14,” said Councilmember Huizar. “The work completed at Lou Costello Jr. Recreation Center gives Boyle Heights’ residents a safe, renovated space to enjoy and is a great example of a successful public/private partnership. We thank Coca-Cola for their generosity.”
This great new addition to our community marks the kick off of “Happier Together,” a city wide campaign to engage the community in the spirit of togetherness this new space provides. This space will be an important fixture in the community, bringing together families and neighbors for years to come, because when neighborhoods are #HappierTogether, they are stronger together.
