Clean Up Green Up Heading to Full Council for Approval

Councilmember Huizar’s PLUM committee approved the Clean Up Green Up initiative, legislation authored by the Councilmember to assist so-called toxic-hotspot communities like Boyle Heights that have seen more than their fair share of environmental impacts from industrial uses.

unnamed.jpgThe communities of Pacoima and Wilmington will join Boyle Heights as pilot neighborhoods with the aim of creating more focused community health standards in order to clean up and green up existing businesses while creating green innovation opportunities in the communities most in need.

As part of the Clean Up Green Up initiative, PLUM also approved a Citywide standard to provide better air filtration systems in new developments within 1,000 feet of a freeway. This will offer meaningful protection for people where air pollution is often the most dangerous.
