The Eagle Rockdale Community Garden & Art Park will host its 3rd Annual Open House & Seedling Sale. The event is free and open to the public. More than 1000 organically grown tomato, pepper, squash, basil and other vegetable seedlings available for sale. Refreshments, live music, raffle and garden tours.
Eagle Rockdale’s community gardeners have cultivated hundreds of organic seedlings, available for $3 donations. Available varieties include heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, kale, tomatillos, eggplant, peppers, basil and other herbs.
The garden will also offer free musical entertainment, planting advice, and fresh squeezed lemonade for sale. “Industrial-strength” tomato cages, constructed by garden members, will also be available.
The LA Master Gardeners’ free seedling workshop will take place at 6 pm, Friday, April 10, at the Eagle Rock Certified Farmers Market, located at 2035 Colorado (adjacent to Eagle Rock City Hall), in the heart of Eagle Rock/LA 90041. This is a hands-on workshop that will require participants to “get dirty” transplanting their own plants and learning best practices from the esteemed University of California Cooperative Extension program. Seating is limited and available on a first come, first-served basis.
The Eagle Rockdale Community Garden is located on 1103 Rockdale Avenue in a residential neighborhood, just south of Shelby-Lanark Park, off Figueroa and La Loma. Please park with consideration for the residents (don't block driveways or garages).
Proceeds of the ERCG seedling sale will offset water and maintenance costs of the volunteer-run community garden, which serves approximately 50 families and includes several art installations, a native garden, a rainwater garden, a greenhouse and a COB oven.
A portion of sale proceeds will be committed to new projects, including a pollinator garden in Shelby-Lanark Park and a yet-unnamed school garden project in the neighborhood.
