EL SERENO & SURROUNDING AREAS2018-08-29T18:17:40+00:00

The community of El Sereno sits atop the Monterey Hills that separate the Los Angeles basin from the San Gabriel Valley and is known for its beautiful, rolling hillsides. El Sereno was founded in 1905 as a working-class suburb of Los Angeles along the former Pacific Electric Railway line. Many of its residents are people who grew up in El Sereno and have returned to raise their own families in this proud, tight-knit community. Since Councilmember Huizar took office, he has delivered on several key community projects in El Sereno and the surrounding communities of Rose Hills, Hillside Village, Hermon and University Hills, that had remained unfulfilled for more than 30 years. Councilmember Huizar has worked with these local communities to bring new and improved park spaces (Ascot Hills, El Sereno Park, El Sereno Arroyo Playground, Guardia Park), and a complete overhaul of the community’s transportation structure along its main thoroughfares improving access and pedestrian safety for all – totaling close to $100 million in street improvements alone.
