El Sereno Berkshire HPOZ Hearing

El Sereno Berkshire HPOZ Hearing

Councilmember Huizar invites El Sereno residents and historic preservationists to come out and share your thoughts on the new Berkshire Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ). Beginning in 2014, Councilmember Huizar worked with El Sereno residents to establish a historic preservation zone in El Sereno to protect excellent examples of early 1900s Craftsman, Bungalow, American Colonial Revival, and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture in what was railroad inspired subdivisions. The historic district is roughly bounded by Huntington Drive to the east, Kendall Avenue to the north, the properties on the west side of Alpha Avenue to the west, and Newtonia Drive and Alpha Street to the south. It is a well-preserved example of early suburban tract development, retaining integrity of plan, layout, architectural design, scale, and landscaping and conveying a cohesive sense of community, time and place.
