On Saturday, March 21, 12 volunteers from the El Sereno and NELA communities, Office of Councilmember Huizar and NELA Homeless Coalition/Recycled Resources were able to hand out lunches and survey 16 homeless individuals, three of which self-identify as veterans.
To those of us who are familiar with homeless outreach, we know that this is no small number. Our outreach team was passionate and persistent, continuing to survey folks even after the event had ended.
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who dedicated their Saturday to surveying our homeless neighbors in El Sereno!
Saturday's outreach event was just the beginning of the process to connect with homeless individuals in the El Sereno area.
This was the fifth outreach event held since January 31 in CD14. Other events have taken place in Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Hermon, Garvanza and Boyle Heights.
The goal with these surveys is to find permanent supportive housing that meets the unique needs of each individual. The survey information streamlines the housing procurement process by creating a reliable personal profile of each individual that allows service providers to better connect with Angelenos in need.
Special thanks to The Tamale Man for donating a delicious lunch, and to Recycled Resources for the Homeless for providing sack lunches and fresh baked cookies for our survey participants.
