Breed & Sheridan ‘Safe Routes To School’ Improves Students Safety

Councilmember Huizar and his wife, Richelle Huizar, joined City officials to break ground on $5 million in safety improvements to help students in Boyle Heights. These new “neighborhood friendly streets” will improve the safety of kids and adults walking near Sheridan Street Elementary, Breed Street Elementary and the Soto Street corridor.

Improvements include high visibility crosswalks, mini roundabouts, speed humps, pedestrian head start crosswalks, sidewalk repair, new traffic signals and more to increase safety for our kids and pedestrians in the area.

This project is one of several streetscape/sidewalk improvement projects Councilmember Huizar is leading in Boyle Heights. Other Huizar-led projects include Metro’s Eastside Access Project Phase II in and around First St., the Cesar Chavez Streetscape Project, Olympic Blvd. Safety Improvements and Whittier Blvd. Sidewalk Repairs.
