Huizar Motion Calls for Study Due to Increase in Latinos Experiencing Homelessness

In November, Councilmember Huizar, along with Councilmember Harris-Dawson, introduced a motion to better identify strategies and challenges unique to the Latino homeless population. While the City saw a slight decrease in the number of homeless individuals across the City, there has been significant growth in the number of Latinos experiencing homelessness.

Councilmember Huizar’s motion calls for the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to convene an Ad Hoc Committee on Latinos Experiencing Homeless. The goal for this committee is to find tactics and best practices to deal with the growing number of homeless Latinos and report back to Council with its recommendations.

Special thanks to the Guadalupe Homeless Project at Dolores Mission in Boyle Heights for their assistance with this motion.
